At the Market, 2015

At the Market was created in 2015 as a "3x3" of nine photographs and is based on shots taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile in January, 2014. All the images communicate to the viewer in lettering; look closely to see the lettering under the graffiti in "Escultor, Pintor, Poeta, Escritor (aka Hoodie)”.

Aceite Energina (loosely translated, Energy Oil -- a lubricant) uses a "left-facing" swastika in its trademark. The sign can actually be found for sale on the web (Aceite Energina) and is claimed to predate WWII -- any connection the Nazi regime is thus unlikely. The "left facing" swastika is a Chinese character (wàn) and has been adopted into Japanese characters (manji). The swastika first appears in the archaeological record around 3000 BC (Swastika, Wiki).

The two images with painted boards depict bench backs near the Ritz Carlton in Santiago. And yes, the blue bench back, "No Te Robé," ("I did not Rob You") has been lettered backwards, reading right to left. "Vuelve a Classes" is a demand that the reader "Return to Class."

"Citrus" is also one of two photographs used to produce each of the two Graffiti Mash-Up images, "Citrus Demon" and "Conjunto" (see Graffiti Mash-Up, 2014).
