Che, 2015

Che was created in 2015 as a "3x3" of nine photographs and is based on shots taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile in January, 2014.

In this collection, "Che" is a photograph of the framed and iconic photograph "Guerrillero Heroico" (Alberto Korda, March 5, 1960) that hangs in La Casa Rosada, the mansion and office of the President of Argentina. I've started and ended the collection with images of Che Guevara, though I am puzzled by the lack of a mustache on the graffiti version (clearly this is Che!). Again, the graffiti, mustache-less Che appears both in "Conjunto" and in "Red Star" (see these images in Graffiti Mash-Up, 2014

A normalization of relations between the U.S. and Cuba might over time allow capitalism to take a foothold in that failed state.  One can only hope that this would mean more "Capitalist Burger" and "Capitalist Chocolate" for those that have gone without for decades -- may many, not just the few, eventually prosper. But these transitions are neither easy nor often successful . . .

The similar roles that Che Guevara and Ben Franklin played in revolution and in international diplomacy, albeit with different political objectives, is depicted in "Che and Ben" (see Graffiti Mash-up, 2014).
